Rock Really Is Dead
So I have said for several years that rock is dead. Once we hit the year 2000, it seemed evident that (c)rap had taken over completely and that rock had officially become the minority. But I never realized that there really no new rock bands. Sure, many of them were pretty poor, but I figured they still existed.
Browsing around Urge today, I decided I'd listen to some of the Billboard 90's rock charts. Each were filled with about 70 decent songs. Curious, I went looking in 2005 and at the "present" billboard chart and was suprised that the "Top Rock Tracks of the Year" section didn't exist. Many of the names of the billboards had been changed to "Hot Something-or-other", and there was a selection for "Hot Modern Rock Tracks".
Okay, so click on that -- to find a huge selection of 20 songs. What a disappointment! Browsing around some more, I found myself in the "Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks" to find a wopping 50 tracks.
So that's it I suppose. According to the "top songs" record keeper (Billboard), rock is officially gone.
Oh well. Back to my classic rock and techno.
